How do acoustic panels absorb reverberation?

The acoustic environment is important

We are constantly immersed in sounds. These may include the sounds of conversations, ringtones, various rubbing noises, footsteps or background music.

The acoustic design of a room has an influence on the health and productivity of the occupants. High exposure to noise increases stress and fatigue.

Reverberation is measured in time and not in decibels

So when you measure reverberation in a room, you are measuring how long it takes for sound to stop its progression in a room. Not how loud the sound is.

The sooner the sound stops, the less reverberation there is in the room.

When working to create good acoustics in a room, it's about controlling the reflections in the room so that the sound is stopped or attenuated.

In other words; we need to shorten the reverberation time.

Typically, you do this by mounting sound-absorbing materials to the surfaces that sounds reflect off of.

This will usually be the walls and ceilings.

There are several sound-absorbing materials that you can use for this purpose, and of course our acoustic panels are one of them. They have an acoustic classification of class A, when you insert mineral wool behind the panels, which means they are very effective to dampen the noise.

The sound rating – Class A – is the highest rating available.

How do Wood Vibe acoustic panels work?

Our panels are made of two layers:

  1. Acoustic felt (which is made from recycled plastic, by the way) absorbs sound waves when they hit the panels. This means that the sound will not reflect into the room, but will be absorbed by the panel.
  2. Wooden slats or battens will also attenuate the sound, but in another way.
The slats (or slats) attached to the acoustic felt dampen sound by breaking up sound waves. Technically, this is called diffusion. The panels split sound waves when they hit an uneven surface (because of the cleats), therefore the sound waves will lose energy, as they are split (or dispersed) into smaller sound waves.

This helps to attenuate the sound even more.

This is about controlling sound reflection in the room and the solution is to install sound-absorbing material on the most exposed surfaces.
